International Year of Sustainable Energy for All

MAY 1         St. Joseph the Worker * We pray for just compensation for all workers, especially migrant farm workers.
Catholic Worker Movement begun 1933.
We pray for Michael Selsor scheduled for execution in Oklahoma, the victim, and their families.

MAY 2         Joan Chittister once said, “Personal growth demands that we critique the laws under which we live with a sense of great responsibility.  Sometimes it is just as effective to ignore a law as it is to resist it.”
We pray for the end of the death penalty, especially for Anthony Barter scheduled for execution in Texas, the victim, and their families.

MAY 3         Saints Philip & James (1st Century Apostles) * We pray for all present day Apostles reaching out to address the needs of our sisters and brothers around the  world.
Peace Pastoral (Issued 1983) * We pray for peace in the world, in our communities, and within ourselves.

MAY 4         We pray for the success of the International Rio 20 Summit on Sustainability in June.

MAY 5         Cinco de Mayo * Of Mexican origin, this date is observed in the United States as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride.
Climate Impact Day * We pray that each of us does some action to lessen our impact on the earth and climate.   Recycle!  Reuse!  Restore!

MAY 6         Sigmund Freud (b. 1856) * “Freud wasn’t right about everything he theorized about the human mind, but he was right about one thing.  He wrote, ‘Being entirely honest with oneself is a good exercise.’  What are you holding in that you should be talking to someone about.”  (Joan Chittister)

MAY 7         We pray for the U.S. Supreme Court as they deliberate the Affordable Health Care Act. May their decision(s) benefit the common good.

MAY 8         World Red Cross / Red Crescent Day * We pray for all those who support and volunteer for disaster work throughout the world.

MAY 9        We pray for decisions that benefit the common good at the meetings of the G-8 in Chicago (May 8-9).
We pray for all those on death row, especially Todd Wessinger scheduled for execution in Louisiana, the victim, and their families.

MAY 10      We pray for the recently deported immigrants who were separated from their families, especially the 46,686 parents of American-born children.

MAY 11      Israel admitted to the UN (1949) *  We pray  for peaceful solutions in the Israel and Palestine conflict.

MAY 12      Florence Nightingale (b. 1820) * We pray in gratitude for all who care for those without medical insurance and those who provide care in shelters, clinics, and streets throughout the world.

MAY 13      Blessed Julian of Norwich  (Unofficial Feast Day) * Julian once said, “Between God and the soul there is no between.”  May we all remain close to God.
Mother’s Day * We pray for all mothers, especially those with children in war zones –  that all children have what is necessary to develop their potential.

MAY 14      St. Matthias, Apostle * Chosen in the early Church to replace Judas
World Fair Trade Day  * We pray that all farmers and creators of goods will receive just compensation for their labors.

MAY 15      St. Isidore, Farmer * We pray for all those who till the earth to bring food to our table.
Conscientious Objectors Day *  We pray for those who serve their country and for those who oppose war and armed conflicts.

MAY 16      We pray for Steven Staley in Texas and Samuel Lopez in Arizona, scheduled for execution, the victims, and their families.

MAY 17      Feast of the Ascension
Brown vs. Board of  Education – Supreme Court ruled that segregated schools are unconstitutional  (1954) * We pray for the end of racism.

MAY 18      We  pray for peace between Sudan and South Sudan.
We pray in gratitude for the contribution of the Asian people to the USA.

MAY 19      Christian de Cherge OSCO and companions martyred in Algiers in 1996.  We pray for peace and understanding among Christians and Muslims.

MAY 20      Blessed Franz Jagerstatter * (b. 1907) Austrian Conscientious Objector who refused to fight in the German Army; executed in 1945.

MAY 21      World Day of Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development (UN) * We pray that every Country’s culture is respected and receives resources for economic development.

MAY 22      International Day for Biological Diversity * We pray that governments will work together to conserve biological diversity.

MAY 23      We pray for the repose of the souls of Jesse Herandez, William Mitchell, David Gore, Mike Wiles, and Shannon Johnson executed in April.

MAY 24      We join the Church in praying for the Catholic Church in China.

MAY 25      St. Mary Magdalene de Pazzi  * We pray for women in Church ministry and leaders of religious communities, especially the Leadership  Conference of Women Religious (LCWR).

MAY 26      Voting Rights Bill (1965) * We pray for informed voters and respectful dialogue relating to issues for the common good.

MAY 27      Pentecost *   We pray for the Spirit’s guidance for all of us especially in the Church Hierarchy.

MAY 28      Memorial Day * We pray for all those who have died, especially those who serve their country.

MAY 29      Patrick Henry (b. 1736) * We pray for those throughout the world striving for liberty in the most adverse circumstances.
International Day of UN peacekeepers * We pray for the safety of all those working for peace.

MAY 30      St. Joan of Arc  * We pray for women who are victims of abuse.

MAY 31      Feast of Visitation of Mary to Elizabeth * We pray that mothers throughout the world will have the support necessary to bring healthy, happy        children to life in this world.

    Nice post. I learn something more challenging on different blogs everyday. It will always be stimulating to read content from other writers and practice a little something from their store. I�d prefer to use some with the content on my blog whether you don�t mind. Natually I�ll give you a link on your web blog. Thanks for sharing.
