Sisters of Divine Providence Fulfill Promise of Safety

I began my journey on April 5, 2013. That day, a gang of seven men broke into my house and held my three children and me at gunpoint. They told us that we had to leave or they would kill us. That night, we began our flight from El Salvador.

Her journey would take her to the U.S. border, through injury, and into the arms of Sr. Zita Telkamp and La Posada Providencia.

La Posada Providencia is a ministry founded and sponsored by the Sisters of Divine Providence for people in crisis from around the world, who are seeking legal refuge in this country . The shelter staff provides a safe and welcoming home, mentors to promote self-sufficiency and cultural integration, and imparts values which witness God’s Providence in our world.

  1. This ministry certainly makes providence visible in our world today, answers such a great need of our times, and fulfills the legacy our Founder, Bishop Ketteler, left to us. I am proud of the work we do here!
